Panchalimedu

Predominantly it is a high altitude region situated at a height of 2,500 ft (760 m) above the mean sea level. The place is surrounded by deep valleys and hills, accompanied by meadows, grasslands and cool refreshing climate. From there, the Koruthodu valley near Mundakkayam with widespread rubber plantations can be seen. Parunthumpara hills and Periyar tiger reserve lies to the east of Panchalimedu. Many tourists arrives there during the summer season for trekking and to get refreshed. When monsoon arrives, the place will be covered by charming mist and thick fog. Although, a pleasant climate is experienced here throughout the year. Apart from Pullumedu, Panchalimedu is another spot in the district where many pilgrims gather to witness the Makaravilakku, a holy flame that is believed to a supernatural phenomenon by the devotees, which appears annually on 14 January in the Ponnambalamedu summit.

Kuttikanam

Kuttikanam is among the best trekking and adventure sport locations in Idukki. The trails are fantastic and one gets to drink in a breath-taking view of the hills and greenery that surround the area. Cardamom and tea plantations lie everywhere and the aroma flooding the vicinity is truly ethereal. Bison and monkeys can be viewed in the area along with a host of other rare fauna. The mist covered slopes will never be completely erased from your mind and make for a memorable experience.

Valanjanganam Waterfalls

Valanjanganam falls, locally known as Ninnumullipara is a scenic waterfall located in Kuttikkanam in Idukki district, Kerala state. It lies on the Kottayam-Kumily state highway, about 4 km from Kuttikkanam. Its a best place to relax in the misty climate after long drive. Tourists usually stop here for a tea and enjoy the falls. Its an ideal spot to stop and take a quick stretch and relax during tiring journey..

Vagamon

Vagamon hill station in Idukki is among the few spots on the planet that need to be experienced first-hand to truly discover its glory. The grassy hills, velvet lawns and overall mysticism of the place cannot be replicated anywhere else in the world. This quaint town lies untouched by any modern influences and is neatly tucked away in Idukki district. Visitors can avail many activities including trekking, paragliding, mountaineering and rock climbing. People love travelling across a chain of three famous hills: Thangal, Murugan and Kurisumala. These are important to Hindus, Muslims and Christians, respectively, and are a perfect example of the communal harmony prevalent in the place. The Kurisumala monks have an enchanting dairy farm nearby that is an absolute delight to visit.

Parunthumpara

Parunthumpara or 'Eagle Rock’ is situated near Peermedu in Idukki district, is a place famed for its pristine natural beauty. A trekker's delight offering a bird's eye view of an endless stretch of green forests and the landscape, Parunthumpara is a favourite of off-beat travellers. And if the sky is clear, the visitors can also get a view of the Sabarimala forests from here. Parunthumpara, literally meaning eagle's rock, is 6 km away from Peermedu-the famous plantation town in Kerala, on the National Highway 220. Parunthumpara can also be accessible through two main roads in the district; from Nedumbassery-Munnar road and the Kumarakom-Thekkady road. It is among the finest spots to visit when one is in the Thekkady area.

Gavi

Gavi is 14 km south west of Vandiperiyar, 28 km from Kumily, near Thekkady. Gavi is inside the Ranni reserve forest. Gavi is a part of Seethathode Panchayath in Ranni Taluk. Gavi is part of the Periyar Tiger Reserve, and the route can be covered by car from Vandiperiyar. The entrance fee is 25 rupees per person and 50 rupees per vehicle. Cameras are 25 rupees and video cameras are charged 100 rupees. Both day and night stays are available. Forest tent camping is available from November through March. It has been said that most enjoyable route to Gavi is the way from Pathanamthitta.

Thekkady
